Fishing near Tuckerton, NJ

Are you angling to get back on the water and hit some good fishing spots? If you’re docked in one of our slips or are just in the area, then you’re in for a great season of fishing. South Jersey is home to some reel incredible fishing spots, from lakes to reefs. In this blog, we’ll dive into some of our favorite fishing spots in and around Tuckerton!

Tuckerton Cove

We might be biased, but Tuckerton Cove is one of our favorite fishing spots! Tuckerton Cove is a tidal bay and estuary in Ocean County, NJ, known for its calm waters and popularity for kayaking, boating, exploring local maritime history, and fishing for smooth dogfish and bluefish. It is also connected to our Sheltered Cove Marina! Our dock pours out into the Tuckerton Cove. So if you’re docked with us, you’ll have quick and easy access to great fishing at the cove!

Pohatcong Lake

Located in Tuckerton, Pohatcong Lake is a popular spot for shore-based angling, small boat fishing, and is a tranquil setting for anglers. Fishing is productive year-round, with the best action often found in the spring and fall. Pohatcong Lake offers great fishing for largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and bluegill.

Little Egg Reef

Little Egg Reef is a 1.5-square-mile artificial reef site located off the coast of Ocean County, NJ. It is a popular spot for fishing and diving due to its population of black sea bass, tautog, and flounder. Unlike larger reefs in the area, like Atlantic City and Cape May, Little Egg is known for providing a quieter fishing experience.

Barnegat Inlet Jetties – South Jetty

The Barnegat Inlet jetties, located at the northern tip of Long Beach Island, NJ, are essential, man-made stone structures built to stabilize the dangerous, shifting inlet, protect Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, and facilitate safe navigation. The south jetty, accessible through Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, features a popular, mile-long, accessible walkway for fishing and scenic views, attracting anglers for striped bass, bluefish, and tautog.

Oyster Creek Outflow Area

The Oyster Creek outflow area is a well-known, warm-water fishing spot created by the now-decommissioned Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station, which discharged up to 1.2 billion gallons of water daily into a man-made canal. Although the plant closed in 2018, this area remains popular for striped bass and bluefish due to lingering thermal effects.
